Matt Redman has been in the worship ministry and recording business for several years now and written songs that many people around the world have used to worship Jesus.  These songs include The Heart of Worship and Blessed Be Your Name as well as countless others.

It may be the fact that this recording is live and his others are studio albums but there seems to be a raw quality and intensity that has been lacking on many of his recordings.  The songs were always powerful and great, but the production value seemed more apt to weigh the music down than to enhance it.

With Facedown that trend is broken.  It was recorded live at a worship conference with obviously hungry people who were ready to worship their King.  Matt Redman says that “when we face up to the glory of God, we soon find ourselves facedown in worship.”

Everything in the album echoes this pursuit of God’s glory and reiterates similar themes of God’s gift of grace and relationship as well as seeking a true revelation of who He is.

If you do not have this album I very much recommend it.  Matt has a way of putting words together in a song that make you see things differently, and that is certainly a great asset to a songwriter.  It’s meant not just to be listened to but to stir worship and it does just that. You begin to see that God’s glory is not only our goal, but our destination.
