God is so much bigger than we often give Him credit for. How we can look at the majesty and splendor of nature, the complexities of our human bodies, our longing for something divine and then decide that God will not meet us or communicate with us today is absolutely beyond me. In this book, Bob Sorge plainly lays out what we know in our hearts to be true: God wants to reveal Himself in the earth. One of the problems we face, as he sees it, is our willingness to be satisfied with God’s presence when we should be pursuing His glory. It’s certainly an interesting concept that the people of God for years have been so preoccupied with “getting” God’s presence that we are missing our higher purpose which is to bring heaven to earth in the form of God’s transforming glory. Moses would not settle for powerful displays of God’s might and presence as Israel did. He had the audacity in Exodus 33 to lay his hunger out there before God and ask those compelling words, “Lord, show me your glory.” The hope for us is that God said, “Yes.” Now, it is to be recognized that our God is sovereign and He shows mercy to whom He will show mercy, raises up one and puts down another so the answer may not be “yes” the first time. But for those no longer satisfied with “feeling good” in His presence, the hunger to go deeper in God compels them to cry out as Moses did. The book also puts forth in understandable terms how we prepare for His glory, what His glory looks like according to Scripture, the definition of glory, and much more. Parts of it are written specifically to worship leaders, but I believe anyone who is hungry for more of God in these days would benefit from reading this book.
